Located just 30 minutes from Springfield, Carlinville, Illinois is a quant, charming community rich in cultural and historical sites.  One of the premier attractions of this community is the historic collection of Sears homes still in existence in the City's Standard Addition.  Carlinville's Standard Addition is the largest collection of Sears Catalog homes in existence in the country, with 152 of the original 156 mail order homes still standing.  The homes were originally purchased in 1917. The Standard Addition has been the source of many books, documentaries and articles on Sears Homes.

Other historical highlights in Carlinville include the beautiful bricked Historic Square, featuring bricked paving and an elegant gazebo that houses many community activities throughout the year.  Other areas of interest listed on the National Register of Historic Sites include The Loomis House on the Square, built in 1870, the Macoupin County Courthouse built in 1870 and the Macoupin County Jail completed in 1869.  The city's Anderson Mansion features a museum chronicling the development of Macoupin County and its citizens. And the Historic Marker marks the place where Abraham Lincoln once delivered a campaign speech in the race of US Senate in 1858.

Carlinville prides itself on its excellent educational opportunities for children from Early Childhood through Grade 12 offered by the Carlinville Community Public School District #1 Blackburn College offers opportunity for secondary education right in the community with 4-year degree programs available.  Carlinville also houses the Macoupin County site for Lewis and Clark Community College.  A unique educational opportunity that Carlinville is proud to offer is The Macoupin County Center for the Developmentally Disabled.

Carlinville offers a 25-bed community hospital, Carlinville Area Hospital, which provides a wide range of patient services.  Also found in Carlinville are a variety of Church Communities to choose from.  The citizens of Carlinville are involved in numerous festivals that draw residents from surrounding communities throughout the year, including their yearly Christmas Market, Spring and Fall Festivals and Summer Concerts on the Square.
