Carlinville, Illinois

One of the premier attractions of this community is the historic
collection of Sears homes still in existence in the City's Standard
Addition.
Carlinville's Standard Addition is the largest collection of Sears
Catalog homes in existence in the country, with 152 of the original 156
mail order homes still standing. The homes were originally
purchased in 1917. The Standard Addition has been the source of many
books, documentaries and articles on Sears Homes.
Other historical highlights in Carlinville include the beautiful
bricked Historic
Square, featuring bricked paving and an elegant gazebo that houses
many community activities throughout the year. Other areas of
interest listed on the National Register of Historic Sites include The
Loomis House
on the Square, built in 1870, the
Macoupin
County Courthouse built in 1870 and the
Macoupin County
Jail completed in 1869. The city's
Anderson
Mansion features a museum chronicling the development of Macoupin
County and its citizens. And the
Historic Marker
marks the place where Abraham Lincoln once delivered a campaign speech
in the race of US Senate in 1858.
